Smart Phone, Not so Smart Person

Ending the week on a light note…

Last week, someone took mercy on me and replaced my long-suffering Nokia E63 with an iPhone 4. The initial excitement came with a whole lot of misadventures that I just thought to share. I thought this stuff only happened to other people:

The first thing I wanted on the phone was Twitter of course, so I Googled Twitter for Iphone, realised I needed the Apple Store to download anything, so I googled ‘Download Apple App store to iphone’. Some helpful soul on the www let me know that this came pre-installed!

Did I read somewhere that if you shake a phone over the iPhone it transfers all the data to the iPhone? Turns out that is a myth, you look stupid trying that.

Tried the shaking thing once more to refresh Tweets on Echofon. Still didn’t work! Seems my friends who got iPhones before me had been lying to me.

A ringtone is very important, and Jailer by Asa has been my ringtone for almost a year now. All week long,I have been trying to get it on the phone from the Nokia. Realized Nokia and iPhone don’t talk, so I sent the song by Bluetooth to my Galaxy Tab, then paired it, only for the iPhone to tell me ‘device not recognized’. Later a kind tweep informed me that Bluetooth on iPhone isn’t for data transfer. He didn’t tell me what it is for.

Long story short, I had to Google ‘how to transfer music from PC to iPhone’, then scoured the net for ‘Help! For some reason my PC no longer recognizes the iPhone’ then 2 long days of iTunes updates later, I have my ringtone!
Edit: turns out I spoke too soon! Having a song on the phone doesn’t mean you can make it a ringtone. Too exhausted to find out how to do that!

My Whatsapp doesn’t seem to have the cool smilies. I’m too exhausted to Google that today, but Whatsapp IM isn’t fun sans cool smilies!

Googled several apps first, only to realize they’re all in the app store!

I haven’t figured out how to copy a contact yet, so I write a number on a piece of paper first.

iPhone autocorrect! Enough said.
